The authenticator app "2FA Authenticator" manages one-time passwords for logging in to web applications and other services. This app is recommended and supported for secure digital login at TU Dresden. The app is multilingual and offers the option of data backup for the managed one-time passwords. If the smartphone is lost or a new smartphone is used, the backed-up one-time passwords can be restored.
Notes on data protection: The 2FAS app automatically sends non-personal statistical data to the app manufacturer in order to detect and correct errors in the app. This functionality can be deactivated in the app: Settings - About us - Send anonymous crash reports (see screenshot).
To set up a one-time password as a second factor for login processes in the Self-Service-Portal, the following steps are necessary in the app, which are shown using the example of iOS; the procedure is identical under Android:
The following information pages will appear, on which you should select "Continue" or "Next" and on the last page "Start using 2FAS" or click "Skip" at the top right.
Select "Pair new service".
Take a picture of the QR code displayed in the self-service portal with the smartphone camera.
Enter the one-time password for checking in the Self-Service-Portal in the "Check entry" field.
The one-time password is available for secure digital login. If you have to create a new token in the Self Service-Portal, the old entry will remain in the "FAS-App". To delete the old entry, press and hold the entry and select "Edit" and after that click "Delete".
